As we peek our heads out from our winter nests and the dark is not quite so dark, it seems the natural thing to do – eat well, exercise more, and think of how we can generally improve our well-being. Cut to the most important meal of the day – breakfast – and if you’re like me, there is never enough time with all the early morning chores to prepare something on the run. So, every Sunday I make a batch of healthy granola you can eat on the go, so your engine is fuelled the best it possibly can be, for the rest of the day.

Here’s the most flexible recipe for you to add your favourite bits and bobs to.

WHAT YOU NEED

Bag of organic oats
Organic sunflower oil
Maple syrup or honey
Maldon sea salt
Black pepper
Turmeric
Cinnamon
Nutmeg
Coconut
Super green powder (or any powder you are adding as a supplement right now)

Then the list is endless but here are a few of my favourite add ins:
Dried apricot
Raisins
Dried mango
Apple
Cranberries
Any nuts such as pecans and almonds
Any seeds; sesame, pumpkin, sunflower (my favourite)
Coco nibs
Raw honey (from www.therawhoneyshop.com)

WHAT YOU DO

All you do is mix the oats with the sunflower oil and all of your favourite bits. Add your spice, powder, salt and pepper to taste. Sweeten with the maple syrup, honey or any unrefined sugar, or none at all if you don’t like it sweet. Mix again. Then spread thinly over a deep baking dish. Put in the oven for about half an hour on 150ºC fan, take out and mix a couple of times throughout baking.

And ta daa…healthy breakfast let’s be having you! Enjoy
