Few of the hardy plants look as stunning in late summer as hydrangeas.
Hydrangeas are well-known and well-loved garden plants. These gorgeous, giant bloomed plants flower from late spring to late autumn and are easy-to-care-for plants that provide colour and flowers for many months. Many have beautiful autumn leaves too.
It’s best to check that hydrangeas grow well in your area before buying – a quick look at local front gardens will give you an idea of soil type and suitability. They grow well in most soils, although those with blue flowers are sensitive to soil acidity. In more alkaline soils, the blue colour will fade to pinky-purple. Check the eventual height and spread of the hydrangea, and its general growing requirements before buying, to ensure you have the perfect conditions for your hydrangea to thrive.
With numerous varieties, you’re sure to find one that’s right for you. Here are some of our favourites.
