As friends and family once again catch up over dinner tables, we caught up with local Italian Chef Cristian Picco to find out why he’s busier than ever providing private dining experiences and catering for events across East Lothian and beyond.
Arguably one of the toughest sanctions we’ve all had to endure throughout the pandemic has been the inability to enjoy getting around the table with family or friends for dinner. As restrictions start to ease, a new trend is emerging that allows families to come together in a safe and familiar environment – by employing the services of a private chef. Cristian, who resides in North Berwick with his two children, comments; “Being from Italy, for me food and family are inextricably linked – all my best memories are made around the table. Families and friends are understandably desperate to get together again so how better to do so than with a unique private dining experience.”
Cristian has spent 20 years working in some of the world’s most critically acclaimed restaurants from Paris, Monte Carlo and New York to St Tropez and London. Hailing from Alba in the northwestern Piedmont region of Italy and the truffle capital of the world, Chef Picco is renowned for his avant garde creativity, unique flavours and his unwavering commitment to sourcing superior quality produce of provenance. He now provides unique private dining experiences for groups of all sizes, in addition to cookery classes and event catering for clients Scotland-wide.
Cristian continues; “For me, everything is about flavour. I aim to imprint a memory on my clients of the tastes from cultures across the world; tastes that people are simply unable to experience here. Scotland is rich with incredible produce which I use in addition to importing traditional, quality Mediterranean ingredients – from truffles and cheeses to oils and wine. Whether its three courses or ten, for me it’s about providing exquisite combinations of flavours that are both authentic and quintessential to their region.”
Chef Picco has an enviable culinary CV having been chef, restaurateur and teacher, and was bestowed multiple prestigious culinary awards while chef proprietor of La Vie Del Sale in San Remo. His clients have ranged from global CEOs and TV personalities to cooking for the Queen in 2018.
