With the help of a few key accessories even the most basic outfit can be transformed. Susan Oliver of So and Co Accessories tells us that now, more than ever, there is a desire for more meaningful products – accessories which are locally made and imbued with a sense of craftsmanship and artisanal techniques. Here are her favourites:

Based in East Kilbride Lisa Marsella Jewellery makes jewellery from sterling silver and hand-painted aluminium so no two pieces are the same. Original, vibrant and colourful Lisa’s pieces are popular across all age groups.

Whilst travelling with her husband Katie Loxton, founder and creative director of accessories brand Katie Loxton, fell in love with unique pieces of jewellery using semi-precious stones and silver beads and began the journey to create Joma Jewellery – designing pieces with sentiment and soul.

Edinburgh-based company Powder create unique accessories which are fabulously wearable, evoking both glamour and fun. We love their quirky hats, socks, headbands and scarves.

Feel good fashion accessories that are fabulous and fairtrade. North Berwick’s Earth Squared deliver both with their gorgeous collection of bags, purses, scarves, gloves and small accessories.

Róis Scottish Sea Glass based in Glasgow, trawl Scottish shores including North Berwick for their handmade jewellery made from pieces of sea tumbled glass. Their beautifully unique pieces have proved so popular that So and Co have people coming in with sea glass they’ve collected to be turned into jewellery.

UK-based designers Peace of Mind (POM) design with exactly that in mind – your piece in mind. Each item is lovingly designed and produced according to ethical and environmental policies. So not only is their jewellery beautiful but you’re doing good when you purchase it too!

Fashion bag company Long & Son established in 2009 has built a reputation for quality in both materials and workmanship.
