The Zone Face Lift has generated ecstatic press coverage and rave reviews (since its launch) in Vogue, Tatler, The Telegraph, Red, Harpers Bazaar and the Daily Mail, with many calling it a ‘spiritual facelift’. It also has a loyal following of celebrity devotees. I went along to Kristi Sloan Reflexology to see what all the fuss is about.

have a shelf in my bathroom almost entirely filled with those little samples you are given when you buy a beauty product. Creams, gels, serums – all promising the elixir of youth. So anything which promises to take off ten years in twelve weeks has got my attention! Despite its name, the Zone Facelift is an all-natural, non-invasive form of facial massage, and is being compared by many as a credible alternative to Botox – a new way to naturally age well. Developed by London ‘facial reflexologist to the stars’ Ziggie Bergman, the technique is based on the principles of reflexology and the idea that each area of the face corresponds to a part of the body. And having dipped my toes (literally and metaphorically) into reflexology, I was keen to try it.

Having trained with Ziggie, Kristi offers the Zone Facelift, from her bright and airy North Berwick treatment room,  combining the benefits of facial reflexology with incredible facelift massage techniques. As she worked on my face Kristi told me; “Our faces reflect what is going on inside, and reflexology and the massage techniques help to release these emotions held in the face.” For a little over an hour, Kristi swept, stroked, gently prodded and used pressure points on my face in an effort to lift, smooth and get rid of toxins – the aim is to smooth out fine lines and wrinkles and stimulate collagen and elastin production. Kristi used rose quartz spheres, which had a cooling effect on my skin, helping to reduce puffiness and promote a bright, radiant glow. An acupressure roller which stimulates nerve endings and encourages cell renewal and a facial Gua Sha stone to lift, sculpt and tighten my skin.

By the time we were finished I’d almost forgotten that it was vanity that brought me to Kristi’s door. I felt the most relaxed I’d been in a long time. But, I did still want to see what my face looked like. As I sipped water and tried to get down off my cloud, Kristi passed me a mirror. Okay, it wasn’t the miraculous return of my 20-something self but the results were impressive – my skin was glowing and definitely looked a little more plump and fuller.

For best results, Kristi suggests booking a course of treatments – the repetition helps retrain fixed facial muscles. But the effects and feeling of well-being were noticeable from just one treatment alone. It definitely seemed more effective than a typical facial and it would be a great alternative for those toying with the idea of  Botox. And for the first time ever, I feel more hopeful about my ageing face, I can’t help thinking it could become addictive though!
