Everybody enjoys a beautifully clean and tidy home. But, no matter how house proud you are, the busy lives we lead means it can be almost impossible to keep up with household chores. This is when it pays to bring in the professionals.
Nowadays people are busier than ever – our schedules are filled with work, social and family responsibilities. Plus, many of us are now working from home and taking on extra child care responsibilities, which means maintaining our homes can feel completely overwhelming.
No one is more aware of this than Morag Readman, owner of the East Lothian franchise of Bright & Beautiful. Morag bought into the franchise six years ago, after identifying a gap in the market for professional housekeeping in East Lothian. Morag explains; “As director of an Edinburgh marketing agency. I relied on my cleaner for my work-life balance and when she retired I found it very difficult to find an adequate replacement. After we sold the agency, I was looking for a change of direction in my business life. I looked into franchising because I’m a team player and didn’t want to set up a business entirely on my own. Bright & Beautiful ticked all the boxes because it’s about professional service standards, ethical employment (not the ‘cash in hand’ model which is prevalent in this industry) and eco-friendly ways of working.”
The first domestic cleaning service in the county to be accredited by East Lothian Council’s Trusted Trader scheme, Bright & Beautiful provide a reliable, professional and tailored house keeping service. Their fully insured and trained staff will take an amazing amount of strain out of your life. They will tackle the household jobs which take up so much of your time – from tidying and cleaning to changing beds and managing the washing and ironing. Morag says; “Every client is different and every home is unique, so we offer a tailor-made service. We meet all our clients to discuss their needs, taking a look around their home and then we put together a plan to meet these needs efficiently. On the first visit we’d normally do a ‘deep’ clean to get everything up to a great standard and this makes the regular maintenance cleaning easier, with some jobs planned for every visit and others done less frequently.”
What’s more the team from Bright & Beautiful use premium cleaning equipment and eco-friendly cleaning products. The company have undertaken extensive research to find a range of products that will give clients great cleaning results without damaging the environment. Their cleaning products are biodegradable, meaning reduced emissions and waste, as well as being cruelty-free so you can feel guilt-free about your immaculate home. Morag explains; “Even the new disinfectant that we’ve added to our range as part of our COVID-19 Secure procedures has great eco-credentials. It’s a hospital grade disinfectant but without any of the issues associated with strong chemicals such as bleach.”
And for those of you concerned about employing cleaners during the coronavirus pandemic; the official government advice is that it is safe to employ a cleaner, so long as they and you abide by certain guidelines to ensure the safety of all parties. Bright & Beautiful have completed all their COVID-19 Secure risk assessments, evaluating and enhancing their procedures and providing additional training for their teams. Morag adds; “We’re so happy to be back working – helping to make East Lothian homes bright and beautiful!”
MORAG’S TOP TIPS
Summer means lazy days spent lounging in glorious sunshine… yet sadly, chores still need be done. And summer brings its very own cleaning challenges. Sand, fly dirt and unpleasant odours, to name a few. Here are Morag’s top cleaning tips to help make summer even more enjoyable.
Keep odours away
Heat and humidity create the perfect environment for bacteria growth, which is what creates the unpleasant smell inside your rubbish bin. Sprinkling baking soda in the bottom of your bins will absorb the bad odours before they spread throughout your home.
Summer often means dreaded allergies. Regular dusting and vacuuming will remove both dust and pollen, and is a great way to fight off those unwanted allergens.
Don’t let mildew and mould take over
Washing machines will smell a bit in the summer, especially in areas with high humidity. Run an empty load with detergent and hot water. Once it’s done leave the door ajar so it dries properly and gets air circulation.
Remove fly dirt
Spray the fly stain with a small amount of solution made from white vinegar and water. Wipe away with a cloth or paper towel.
Keep sand at bay
In summer nothing beats the feel of sand between your toes. Unless, of course, you happen to be inside. Sandy floors (or worse, sheets) are the bane of every East Lothian home owner. Ensure all the family (and pets!) wash their feet before going inside. Have a foot-bath or even a garden hose at the back door. Double up on doormats – have an inside and an outside one. If sand still gets inside, use a damp mop or sponge to remove sand from floors and other hard surfaces. When sand is dry, vacuuming should do the trick.
