Going for a leisurely brunch or meal out is now a distant memory. And for many of us, stuck indoors, the takeaway is fast becoming the highlight of our food week.

Since the outbreak of the novel corona-virus, we’ve been advised to stay inside and to minimise human contact. One of the biggest challenges this creates is getting food. With restaurants, cafés and pubs all over the country having shut their doors, dining out is no longer an option. Many in the hospitality industry have used the COVID-19 shut down as a time to think on their feet and adapt to takeaway and delivery services. And Craig Wood is no exception.

Well known in East Lothian, local lad Craig was raised in Aberlady and worked in many local eateries before creating an enviable reputation for quality and consistency during his ten years as caterer at Kilspindie Golf Club. His outside catering business, Craig Wood Catering specialises in wedding and marquee catering, along with a mobile bar.

With Britain’s fondness for takeaway food, and takeaways now one of the few ways we can still enjoy ourselves, Craig saw a gap in the market for delivering delicious home-cooked food straight to customer’s doors, and set up WoodFood. Run by the award-winning team at Craig Wood Catering, WoodFood delivers hearty, fresh food throughout Edinburgh, East and Mid-Lothian.

With a weekly changing menu, you can expect dishes from classics such as; steak pie served with sauté potatoes and seasonal vegetables and mixed fish pie topped with creamy mash and cheddar cheese, to foodie creations such as; squash, cauliflower and chickpea mango coconut curry with mixed bean and roast pepper cous cous, and sriracha turkey meatballs with spaghetti of carrots and courgettes and brown rice. Artisan bread, pâtés, soups and deserts such as sticky toffee pudding and lime meringue pie are available too. Craig explains; “All our meals are freshly prepared in a professional production kitchen and have a shelf life of four days. Our products can be frozen and cooking advice and guidance is given for each dish.”

Conscious about our environment, Craig adds; “We are aware that we are using plastic containers and this does not rest easy with us! We have looked into a more eco-friendly container but the reality is that we can not find one that would stand up to the delivery process. Our solution is to ask you to wash, remove stickers and return the plastic containers to us, when you next order, so we may reuse them.
