The Brand family’s farm shop at East Fortune Farm – The Brand Family Larder has been open for 12 months already.
As any small business owner knows this is special milestone which also offers a great chance to reflect and plan for the future. Jane Brand says; “We are so incredibly grateful for the support both visitors and the local community have given us. Knowing that people enjoy our home-reared produce is simply the best result we could ever ask for. Returning customers raving about what they’ve made with our lamb, or how vibrant the colour of the yolks in our free-range eggs are just fills us with joy! We’ve got some really exciting plans for the future and are always looking to meet new local artisan producers.”
The Brand Family have developed a fantastic following on social media and really enjoy telling their story. A true family affair, life on East Fortune Farm is far from dull! The Brands have enjoyed several highlights during the Larder’s first year. They featured in Johnny Bananas’ tour of Scotland with VisitScotland and NBC TV. Alongside this, Brand produce has also been mentioned in several publications including The Herald and the Great British Food Magazine. Selling their pork, lamb and eggs to Michelin star Chef, Tom Kitchin who has been a phenomenal support to them, was a real highlight, especially seeing the delicious dishes that Tom and his team create with Brand pork and lamb. It was a dream come true for the Brands to be at the Haddington Show in June with a stand selling their home-reared pork, lamb and eggs. Not to mention the thrill of their Hampshire Down lamb rack featuring in the food demonstrations by Chef Kip from Tom Kitchin’s Gullane eaterie, The Bonnie Badger.
Jane loves the summer, commenting; “Although our business is very tying, the summer season gives us more chance to chill out with the family after work and generally be a little more impromptu with our plans – the sunny weather really helps, so long may it continue. It makes farm jobs feel easier and entertaining the kids around the farm is easier too!” Summer and the BBQ season is the perfect opportunity to share food with friends, and The Brand’s delicious lamb burgers, butterflied roasts, steaks, sausages and koftas have graced many BBQs already this summer. Give them a try – you won’t be disappointed.
This year, The Brand Family have teamed up with luxury self-catering accommodation Williamstone Farm Steadings and created a pre-order list providing guests with delicious high-quality local produce. Jane delivers around North Berwick and Gullane weekly and can happily arrange to deliver to your holiday guests too. Be sure to follow the family’s journey on social media where you can keep up with all the happenings on the farm including Grant Brand’s latest honour – a visit to Yorkshire to judge sheep at The Great Yorkshire Show.
