After six years trading from their home in North Berwick, Fidra Fine Art is relocating the gallery to Gullane’s Main Street.
Until recently, Alan Rae’s front two rooms of his North Berwick home had been adorned with beautifully hung works of traditional and contemporary Scottish art. Six years ago, Alan opened Fidra Fine Art, trading from his family home, but in May 2018 the gallery moved to a new home on Gullane’s Main Street, previously occupied by Gullane Art Gallery.
Alan explains “Over the last few years we have built up a comprehensive list of some of the most notable artists working in Scotland today and feel the time is right to move into a more traditional high street space. We look forward to continuing the good work that Roy and Gail McGregor have done in establishing the gallery in Gullane whilst introducing new artists and our own ideas.”
Alan’s passion for art is behind the gallery’s success and evident in the time he spends sourcing historic work by Scottish artists, many with a local East Lothian connection as well as visiting contemporary artists in their studios. It is this mix of old and new that makes the variety of work on show so appealing. Alan says “I find it interesting to see pieces from Scottish art history alongside contemporary artists working today and who will be in the history books of the future.”
Alan adds “Our opening exhibition will feature new work by a variety of our existing artists as well as one or two historical pieces with local interest. There will be a great variety of styles and subjects on show so there is sure to be something there to suit most tastes. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our customers and artists who have supported us over the years in North Berwick and hope that you will still make the short trip along to Gullane to see us.”
