Pistachio green is the dream this summer.

Perhaps it all began with the Dubai chocolate, or maybe it was the iced pistachio lattes that started appearing on coffee menus last summer. Either way, the seed – often mistaken as a nut – is super-hot right now… not just in food but fashion and home interiors as well.

Hailed as ‘the new neutral’, pistachio is cheerier than grey and more exciting than beige, giving your home a fresh, summery update. Unlike other greens, which can be too dark and foreboding or, frankly, migraine-inducing (here’s looking at you, lime), pistachio is cool, sophisticated, and, most importantly, inoffensive.

Thanks to its grey undertones, pistachio is also versatile. This means you can paint an entire room with it without feeling like it dominates. It also has a subtle warmth that can instantly make a space feel cheery and familiar while remaining well within the realm of classic.

Another boon of this brilliant hue is that while it can effortlessly adorn the mantelpiece of a country pile, it also looks chic in a city apartment – ideal if you’ve got a, tin left over and a pied-à-terre in need of a spruce up!

Of course, you may not want to play it safe. If that’s the case, then go nuts and combine it with cocoa hues, petrol blues and burnt oranges for a warm and inviting energy that feels more than a little exotic. You can even go all out and add some dark greens and acid yellows, though that’s not for the fainthearted.

Another consideration is which room is most deserving of this oh-so-trendy update… the answer is any of them. Thanks to its balance of cool and warm tones, pistachio isn’t going to look out of place anywhere.

In the kitchen, it can add a kitschy and almost retro vibe, whereas a statement wall or sofa in the shade is going to make your lounge feel like a sophisticated hideaway.

Bedrooms, meanwhile, become an escape from the summer heat, with linen bedding in the hue, maybe even curtains too, or perhaps a rug! And how about bringing a little ice cream magic to a hallway or even making your front door a talking point among your neighbours?

In the bathroom, splashes of pistachio create a modern vibe without going the whole hog – after all, the saturated shades of the 70s were pretty overwhelming. Pair it with wood and natural stone for a look that’s soft and relaxing.

So, give pistachio a go – it’s not seedy at all!
